WHAT INSPIRED ME?
TO MAKE THE FILM
Growing up, Star Wars was a surreal subject. The experience of watching it on the big screen was nothing short of magical.
And yes, I am talking about the prequels.
Regardless of how Star Wars has changed for better or worse through the years, I can never forget the profound effect it had on my creativity and imagination as a kid.
Before The Force Awakens came out in 2015, I began to journey back to that surreal place from my childhood. However, as an adult, I found most of the juvenile aspects I never thought of much as a kid to be unappealing. I wanted a more adult-oriented Star Wars made for a more mature audience. Enter The Old Republic.
I decided to alter the Star Wars timeline after the events of Return of the Jedi to resurrect an old enemy with roots that date back to the era of The Old Republic. More specifically, a sect of ancient Sith that return to re-establish their lost Empire after the destruction of the second Death Star and the death of Emperor Palpatine.
I began planning the film in late 2015 and started production in February 2016. After two-and-a-half years of a rollercoaster ride, everyone involved finally got to see all the blood, sweat, and tears on the big screen.
To paraphrase Darth Vader, the circle was complete.
EXTRAS
IN THE PRESS
"Despite the film's budgetary limitations, The Dark Resurgence is filled to the brim with Star Wars-tinged fight scenes choreographed by McCumber and brought to life by the film's terrific ensemble cast. The film's special effects, while obviously low budget, are surprisingly effective and immensely entertaining. It almost goes without saying that Daniel Sosa Porter is the film's highlight, though one must also give kudos to a top-notch Kayla Bulster as Commander Valkyrie, Gerren Hall's Lieutenant Kor, and Christopher Szabo's Jedi Raven among others."
"Overall I would say The Dark Resurgence is an impressive fan-made film. Even the films that don’t come out as nice as this gets kudos from us as it’s a large undertaking to produce something like this in the first place."
"A fantastic fan film."
"The prologue for this fan film was extremely well written and gives off a very strong Lord of the Rings vibe. In addition, the visual effects used are truly stunning and set up a unique take on what the Galaxy was like after the second Death Star's destruction."
